This year, Western University rises eight positions in the world university rankings to joint 203rd. The University of Waterloo has risen seven positions in the world rankings this year, but remains seventh in Canada. In 2021, the University of Waterloo is ranked joint 166th in the world, with a strong showing in the workplace prestige metric, where it is ranked 85th worldwide.

The university, which was established in 1956, has three campuses and is a member of the prestigious U15 research community.

McMaster University is ranked 144th in the world university rankings, having fallen four points this year. McMaster University achieves the highest ranking in the foreign faculty metric, ranking 83rd in the world. The university is best known for its elite medical school and is headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario.

The University of Alberta is ranked 119th, having dropped six spots this year. The University of Alberta, which has four campuses, has 40,000 students. It receives the best possible score in the foreign faculty predictor.

Topping the list is the University of British Columbia, which is ranked third in Canada and 45th in the world after rising six positions this year.
